JABRIN Fortress

Although you can see many forts enroute to Nizwa and Bahla in Oman, Jabrin Castle is one of the most interesting and best preserved.

Built in 1.675 by Bil-arab bin Sultan Imam, it was an important centre of astrological, medical education and Islamic law. Its highlights include original floral paintings in most room’s ceilings, and it is worth to climb where the flagpole to see the view of a courtyard with jalousies located in the middle. You can also explore the burial chambers, noted for the carved domes, and also some water pipes which functioned as a primitive air conditioning system. There is even a room for the Sultans’ favourite horse. A truly remarkable pace to visit in Oman.
