GOA GAJAH, Elephant Cave

Goa Gajah, also called Elephant Cave, it is located near Ubud in Bali, and although is believed that was built on the eleventh century, only it was known for the Europeans on 1923.

Several steps go down to the temple and other monuments located about 15 meters below the road level. The spacious springs dug in 1954 were probably used for sacred baths. The cave, with a sculpted huge rock face above the entrance, is a small and suffocating T-shaped chamber that houses niches with Buddhist and Shivites statues.

Outside there is a shrine to Hariti, children buddhist protector, portrayed as Balinese Men Brayut, a poor woman with many children.
