Wrestling in Old Delhi

A visit can be made to a Kushti Akhara, an Indian Traditional Wrestling Centre. As the most countries, India has its own traditional wrestling sport, which takes place in a clay or dirt pit and players applying soil mixed with ghee, in their bodies.

Kushti, India Traditional Wrestling is not just a sport, it is an ancient subculture, where wrestlers live and train together, and follow strict rules on everything from what they can eat to what they can do in their spare time. Drinking, smoking and even sex are off limits. The focus is on living a pure life, building strength and honing their wrestling skills.

Delhi and Varanasi are the most easily places to assist to a fighting. Old Delhi has big Akhara, where wresters fight on Sunday, and practice daily except on Tuesday.
