NALANDA Mahavihara, New UNESCO Site

UNESCO announced that the archaeological site of Nalanda Mahavihara at Nalanda, Bihar is now officially a World Heritage site.

Nalanda was an acclaimed Mahavihara, a large Buddhist monastery in the ancient kingdom of Magadha (modern-day Bihar) in India. The site is located about 95 kilometres southeast of Patna near the town of Bihar Sharif, and was a centre of learning from the seventh century bC.

An ancient and great centre of Buddhist spirituality and learning. This site is dotted with architectural relics, while the remains of a once renowned university exist in Nalanda.
